How the Enneagram has Changed my Life-Final Exam

My final posting is here. I have spent MONTHS of my life here, writing to you about something that is so near and dear to my heart. This topic of the enneagram, as you can tell by my large knowledge about it, is something I really enjoy learning about. I love to see how people work together and why people are the way that they are. The Enneagram has not only taught me so much this semester and how much of an interesting topic I find The Enneagram, but it has also taught me how much I genuinely like talking and writing about it.

When I first took the test, I knew nothing about it. I was just taking it because my friends were and I was curious. I took it and read about the Type Nine and I instantly knew that was my number. I read books about relationships with the numbers and personal growth through The Enneagram. I couldn’t get enough. I wanted to be better because I was more aware of my faults.

This changed me for the better. I am a better co worker, girlfriend, daughter, and best friend, all because of the knowledge that this test has taught me. I hope to grow even more through this time, as I know that this is a huge time in my young adult life for growth, and I am very lucky to have all of the wisdom of the Enneagram backing me.

Thank you all for reading and watching and for just being a part of my life for the past 15 weeks. It has been so fun. Don’t forget to check out my final podcast! My best friend, Jackson, and I broke down the Number Two for you guys I also made a fun video about the Types as different kinds of flowers, and a cool video about the enneagram types and where they should travel! Click HERE to check it out the flower video, and click HERE for cool travel destinations! I really hope you enjoy. Thank you!!

All about the Enneagram Six

The committed, security-oriented type. Sixes are reliable, hard-working, responsible, and trustworthy. Excellent “troubleshooters,” they foresee problems and foster cooperation, but can also become defensive, evasive, and anxious—running on stress while complaining about it. They can be cautious and indecisive, but also reactive, defiant and rebellious. They typically have problems with self-doubt and suspicion.  When they are at their best they are internally stable and self-reliant, courageously championing for themselves and others!

Stereotypes for a Type Seven

Are all Sevens unfocused, scattered, non-empathic, and superficial? While many Sevens struggle with maintaining their focus, many have learned to do so. What about Sevens being non-empathic? In fact, many of them work very effectively in hospice settings because they do care so deeply and can also bring a positive point of view to a difficult situation. Superficial? Many Sevens do deep dives into areas that interest them, and this is especially true when they have a strong link to their Five in them.

Stereotypes of a Type Three

Are all Threes limelight seekers, lacking in depth and honesty? Are they all successful, svelte and attractive, with adroit interpersonal skills? Some of these attributes may be perceived as positive and some as negative, but none of them describe all Threes accurately. Some Threes are uncomfortable front and center stage (social subtype Threes most enjoy this.. see previous post to learn more) others have great depth and would never perceive themselves as being anything other than direct and honest (however, the lack of honesty refers more to self-honesty about who they really are); and some Threes are not particularly attractive (though this is in the eyes of the beholder), often displaying a lack of nuance in their interpersonal interactions.

Travel Destinations for a One

According to the Integrative 9 website, “Ones tend to appreciate standards, principles and structure. At their best, Ones are tolerant, self-accepting and serene, offering dignity and discernment to themselves and the world around them.” Norway is an ideal country for Ones to enjoy themselves. The well organized country will allow a One to relax knowing that things are being done correctly. You might also find a One in developing countries doing humanitarian aide or mission work. They are not relaxing though, they are fulfilling their drive to make the world a better place.

Travel Destinations for a Two

You know your Two friends, they are the nice ones. “Twos value relationships and as a result kindness, generosity and self-sacrifice are important to them.” If you are a Two you are worried I will send you to a poverty stricken area where you should help as many people as possible, because that is what a “helper” should do. Nope, that would be work. Twos will most enjoy New Zealand. Kiwi’s are a polite and appreciative people. Twos will feel accepted and enjoy the natural world without the pressure to be helpful all the time.

Travel Destinations for a Three

A Three is highly motivated by success. Threes will enjoy Italy. They can find the best in fashion, the fastest cars, fastest motorcycles, the best coffee and friendly fun people to enjoy it with. Italy has it all and a Three will enjoy the efficiency of getting mountains, country, urban, beaches and history all wrapped into one location. Achievers are ambitious so I am going to give them two more destinations, Japan and Argentina. Japan is a wonder in efficiency and Argentina is fun loving and out going. Threes would be happy at any of these destinations.

Travel Destinations for a Four

Fours are defined as, “People who value individualism and as a result, feelings, self-expression and purpose will be important to them. They are quite romantic at heart and appreciate beauty and creating meaning for themselves and for others.” Welcome to Russia. While the brooding nature of many Russians might come across as an unredeemed Four, they have also produced some of the great works of art in the world of literature, dance and architecture. When given the chance Russians produce amazing beauty for the world. For the less adventurous Four, you can try out Ireland. While on the surface the Irish seem crazy and even scatter-brained, you will not be afraid to be yourself in Ireland.

Travel Destinations for a Five

If you know a PhD, chances are high that person is a Five, but you will find a Five anywhere you find a person who loves to study and research. Independent, innovative, and inventive, they can also become preoccupied with their thoughts and imaginary constructs. If you love a Five take him or her to the Polar regions. Cruising the Northwest passage or kayaking in Antactica will appeal to their desire to learn more about the world while giving Fives quiet thinking time and fewer distractions. When the first space hotel opens, I am guessing a five will be the first to book a room (next door to a Seven).

Travel Destinations for a Six

Enneagram Worldwide says, “Sixes use their keen perception to anticipate problems, find solutions, and establish rules and procedures that create safety and security. Some Sixes are cautious while others jump into action.” Germany has the structure and support to allow a Six to relax. Sixes can rest assured a trip to Germany will be a good time and trust the Germans to provide an abundance of information about the hows and wheres of their country. A Six will probably not be terribly tied to a specific location but wants to know that where ever they travel they will be able to understand the risks and logistics involved.
